So for those of you who don't know, AO3 has been targeted by a group of hackers in a DDoS attack -- basically they knocked the servers offline by using a botnet [read: compromised devices linked together remotely] to send a fuckload and one requests to the site that are too much for the servers to handle. Think the second the doors open for Black Friday and everyone and their father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate is trying to get through -- it's kinda like that On top of all this, they're holding the site ransom, supposedly promising to release it and leave the site alone forever if paid [doubt] but also to keep up the attacks if not paid in a timely manner [it should go without saying this group don't deserve any money, so don't give it to them]; it's kinda stupid if we're being honest here cos my guy, of all the places to DDoS and extort, you chose a non-profit organisation???
